Many people looking to buy cheaper phones and one of that quests is for sure Nokia N95 . But low cost came with some restrictions, usually that phones is so called "branded" meaning phone have logos, colors and links to provide eg. Vodafone, Cingular and similar. Usability of that phone is sometimes limited because you cannot change their brands, assign buttons or even in some cases wallpapers. But biggest problem is upgrading software which is sometimes impossible. Here is short tutorial how to "debrand" Nokia N95 and other s60 phones, actual guide is made by Paul at Series 60 Blog .

Nokia n95 de-branding guide:

1. If you haven't already done so, install Nokia PC suite on to your PC.

2. Download the following 2 pieces of software on to your PC:

3. Install NSS, during setup choose the virtual usb option.

4. Install Nokia Software Updater (NSU).

5. It's a good idea to back your phone up, contacts, images, messages etc. Backup can be done via Nokia PC suite backup utility. Once you've successfully flashed your phone you can restore it.

6. Open the NSS application on your PC. Click the "Scan for new Device" icon in the top right of the screen. The NSS screen will be full of various information, don't concern yourself with it. Now click the "Read" button on the NSS program. This will now show you your phones current product code. Now of course you need a generic Nokia code. A standard code for the Nokia n95 UK version is and is the number used for flashing which worked perfectly, for a full list of codes see The Nokia Blog. Tick the box to enable writing and replace the current product code with the new generic code and click the "write" button. That's it, you're done with this stage and ready to flash your phone.

6. With your phone still connected to your PC open Nokia Software Updater. This part is straight forward, follow the step-by-step on screen instructions. You may be required to accept the connection request from PC suite on your phone, depending on your setup.

You?re done! You can now restore your phone and enjoy a unbranded Nokia n95 or whatever phone you're debranding. In future when you want to update your phone, simply start with step 6 as your phone will remain a generic branded Nokia unless you change it again using this process.
