The 8GB Nokia N95 is a smartphone with an impressive array of multimedia features supported by 8 gigabytes of internal memory. The QVGA 240 by 320 pixel color display utilizes an ambient light detector and presents up to 16 million colors that the 5 mega pixel camera uses to great advantage. The camera employs Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus, 20X digital zoom and an integrated flash. Red-eye reduction is automatic.

The Nokia N95 MP3 digital music player, which incorporates play lists and an equalizer, and the stereo FM radio present excellent stereo sound for a device this size. And it is small for such a full function phone: 2.1 inches high, 0.8 inches deep, and 3.9 inches high, and weighing only 4.2 ounces.

GPS mapping functions are clear on the large screen and maps are included for over 100 countries. Restaurants, hotels and other points of interest are included as standard functions and voice guided navigation and city guides can be purchased separately.

An interesting feature is the dual slide function which makes switching between different modes easy. A numeric keypad slides out from the bottom of the smartphone while dedicated media keys slide out from the top. When the media keys are exposed the display automatically switches to landscape mode.

Of course, phone functionality is complete including functions such as vibrate alert, voice dial, voice recorder, speed dial, and speakerphone. Internet browsing is supported and allows zooming out to a full screen view of a page, selection of an area, and then zooming in to the desired detail. Text automatically adjusts to the screen size. A browsing history is also maintained.

The Nokia N95 smartphone operates on the WCDMA (UMTS)/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 bands, and supports IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, Infrared (IrDA), and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR wireless interfaces. Talk time can reach 210 minutes on WDMA and up to 300 minutes on GSM. Standby time is up to 280 hours.

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) provides easy interaction with personal computers and the Symbian OS 9.2/Series 60 3.1 Edition operating system provides support for the device’s functions and optional applications such as currency conversion, data base management, and expense tracking.

The Nokia N95 8GB cell phone is truly a powerhouse of multi media capability likely to keep the most sophisticated smartphone user satisfied for a long time.
