Firefox Mobile Beta is doing the rounds, and even looks like being the perfect choice for the Nokia N900 tablet when it ships in the next couple of weeks. What’s more, it looks like Firefox Mobile has found its natural home on Symbian on Maemodevices. Firefox is now officially five years old and while we’ve been hoping for over a year that that the mobile version of Firefox (originally known as Fennec) would be appearing on Nokia devices soon. Last week we revealed a rather good video of Firefox Mobile Beta in action on a Nokia N900 and it seems this won’t be the last instance.

The guys over at electricpig have been talking to Mozilla’s European president, Tristan Nitot, about the upcoming launch of Firefox Mobile and it seems that Symbian and Maemo make for natural choices of OS. It’s the combination of them being open platform, so anyone can develop for them, which is seen as a problem on Apple and BlackBerrry platforms, but also due to the rather more robust nature of Symbian and Maemo.

As Tristan Nitot puts it, ‘[Firefox for mobile] is a modern browser with all the bells and whistles that you’ll find in your desktop browser so you need a powerful operating system such as Maemo.’
