How to setup transparent OP logo

Learn how to setup or remove OP logo, manually or with some other 3rd party application! But that's not all, as always we offer something more, here is the guide which will teach you how to make a ??€?transparent-looking??€? OP logo (like on nokia s40 phones for example). Well, if you ever tried then you probably know that S60 phones don't support gif's as op logo, they use bitmap image format without masking support, this means that op logo looks very ugly on all complex background, essentially in all other backgrounds besides the default/white one.

Also I??€m finding a solution on how to make ??€?neutral logo", which can fit any theme and which allows completely clear idle screen without any influence of network info.

So if want to know how to make/setup the op logo to fit theme background like the images below and avoid damn ugly non transparent Op Logos, or if u just want to clear network info at all and keep your idle screen clear of any influence, keep reading this guide..

Lets do it...

Let??€s do it...

You would need the following:

All of above tools (apart from Photoshop) U can find and download for free at our download section.

First off all little history

The operator logo is the picture on right top part of your phone idle screen, which appears instead of active network info in text format, in most cases it is a stylized name/logo of your operator.

OP logo is a Bitmap file size of 97 x 25 pixel stored under following path: C:\System\Apps\Phone\OpLogo\

They are named by some important rules in following fomat:
xxx_yy_ww.bmp

Where is the:

Code
Descripton
Sample
XXX
Mobile Country code
219
YY
Mobile Network code
1
WW
Mobile Subnet code
0

Mobile Country Code (MCC)
and Mobile Network Code (MNC)

The operator needs to be assigned a Mobile Country Code (MCC) and a Mobile Network Code (MNC) since these codes are part of the IMSI number, which is used as the main subscriber key in the GSM location databases.

The MCC is the first field of the IMSI and is three digits in length; it identifies the country. The MNC is the second field of the IMSI and is two to three digits in length; it identifies the network within the country. The MNC, in combination with the MCC, uniquely identifies the home network of the mobile terminal or mobile user.
The allocation of MCCs is administered by the ITU-T, International Telecommunication Union.

Figure 1 IMSI Structure

The ITU-T publishes the list of Mobile Country Codes in its form, Complement to Recommendation E.212, "List of Mobile Country or Geographical Area Codes." This form is available from the ITU web.
MNCs are administered by the designated administrator within each country (usually the national telecommunication authority of regulation). The operator can recommend the MNC but in all cases the country regulator will have to approve it.

For example:

Croatia
T-mobile (219 01) => 219_1_0.bmp

Spain
Vodafone (214 01) => 214_1_0.bmp

If u doubt about your network code u can find the list of country codes at [this] and network codes at [this] link, and keep in mind that u need to ignore the leading "0" in the network code if they exist.

Guru tip No 1:

Also keep in mind that you can store as many OP logos as u want, for example if U travel very often and roaming is usual for U, or U have several SIM cards from different operators, U can simply make logos for every single network and they would change automatically with the network you??€re currently subscribing to.

That has been a short description of Op logo, essentially it is a basic info which u need to know before u proceed to next part of this guide. If you read and understood the above section, you can proceed to:

Part two

How to setup clear (Full transparent) logo

As u can see on the left image I??€m finding for a solution on how to make neutral "logo", which can fit to any theme and which allows completely clear idle screen without any influence of network info.

Advantages of this kind of Op logo is obviously at first look, essentially if you read carefully the previous part u probably know that u need to create separate logo for every single theme which u use, it is not a problem for a designer like me who can work with Photoshop with my eyes closed, but for somebody who don??€t have any experience in raster graphic editors, it can be very difficult job. So I??€m looking for a solution which would allow easy creation of the ??€?wow??€? effect idle screen with just basic symbian knowledge and of course without the necessity of learning how to work with complex software such as Photoshop. Also this part would be useful for users who are just too lazy to create and setup different logo for every single theme and change them as well. And of course for all users who just prefer clear idle screen without any unnecessary influence on it.

So if u recognize yourself in one of those mentioned category keep reading this part carefully, otherwise u can proceed to part three.

Lets do it...

next you would need :

Guru tip No 1:

Don??€t try to setup this type of logo automatically with other 3rd party application such as fexplorer or any other programs which has the ability to manipulate the operator logo.

Why!?

Because just one simple reason, all currently available soft always resize picture to default size (97x25) before setting them up as an OpLogo, in this case, it will result to a white rectangle instead of a clear logo.

1.)

First step is we need to find out the country, network and subnet code. If u already know your operator codes u can proceed to step 5.

There are so many ways on how to do it, I will describe one of the fastest method.

All u need is the installed Fexplorer application, otherwise u can probably find necessary code at
[ this ] link.

2.)

So run Fexplorer
Choose:
Options/Phone/Network info

3.)

U wolud get something like on above image, this mean that your logo image must have following name for proper work:
219_1_0.bmp

4.)

Upload (send) suplied Logo (SF celar logo) to phone.
Find, highlith them and choose: Options/edit/Copy or just press 1 as copy shortcut

5.)

Scroll to the following path:
C:\System\apps\Phone\OpLogo\
and choose:
Options/edit/Copy or just press 7 as paste shortcut

6.)

Now highlat basted bmp file, and choose:
Options/File/Rename and input name which we define in step 4, as on the image above...

7.)

Now just choose:
Options/Phone/Restart or restart phone manually...

8.)

Thats it, you would see clear idle screen as on above image...

Part three

How to setup transparent looks like logo

Here it is, the last and the most complex part. If you read previous parts carefully, than you probably already know that I will try to explain how to create a transparent logo on a simple and the most easier way, in great, but also very difficult tool for newbies who don??€t have any experience in raster graphic editors. I'm talking about Photo Shop of course, the best available raster graphic editor. Also, I will describe basic actions with MBM wizard and manipulation with multiple MBM file.

So, if you are a brave man, if you aren't afraid of PS and raster graphic and you want to know how to make/set-up the op logo to fit theme background like on images above and avoid damn ugly non-transparent Op Logos keep reading this guide...
BEFORE

AFTER

Lets do it...

You would need the following:

Guru tip No 1:

U will se that I'm used Photo shop CS (the latest one version) but u can use PS 7 to without nay problems.

1.)

First step is we need to find out the theme mbm file, as you probably know all theme content is stored inside one mbm file which is stored under X:\System\skins\ directory along with skn file.

As always, there are so many ways on how to do it, I will describe only one of them, and as always it will be one of the fastest methods in my opinion..

So take your phone and run fexplorer or any other 3rd party manager like Seleq, eFile manger, etc.
BTW:
I suppose that u have installed theme of course!?

2.)

Scroll down to skins directory like on image abowe (C: or E:, depends on where theme is installed)

3.)

Find directory of theme for which you want to make transparent logo, if you're not sure which one is it, you can check mbm file with Resco viewer, for example.

4.)

Once when u find right mbm file, send to PC in any way, with direct BT sending for example like on image above.

5.)

If you used BT, you will find mbm file inside BT exchange folder, otherwise locate your mbm file and copy it in some temp dir.

6.)

Run MBM wizard, chose Import form file menu, just like on image above..

7.)

Find right mbm file, highlight it and choose open, you will have to wait for a few seconds after this actions, because shell must run mbm converter and convert mbm file as well..

8.)

Now you see content of loaded mbm file in middle window, if you click on image, you will see preview in right part like on image above.
We need just a theme header, it is a sixth image on list like on sample above.

9.)

Now just follow above numbered steps.
So forget all other images and:

1.) highlight just theme header as the sown under,
2.) then choose save selected as bmp
3.) On pop up win just choose the storage place and click on save..

That's it, exit MBM wizard and don't forget where you saved extracted theme header.

10.)

Want or not you need to run Photo shop now
So run it, choose Open from File menu, or just press CTRL + O.
Find extracted bitmap file and click on Open as shown on image above.
Repeat all once again and open supplied Op logo template.

11.)

You will see something like on image above, arrange windows like on above image for easier work with them.

12.)

Now we need to copy theme header to supplied Op logo template, we will do it in three simple steps as shown on image above:

1.) Select theme header window and press Ctrl + A (Select / All)
2.) Then Press Ctrl + C (Edit / Copy)
3.) Finally, select Op logo template and press Ctrl + V (Edit / Paste)

13.)

Ctrl + O and open your network logo with transparent background usually in gif format, but it??€s better if you can find it in tif, psd or similar raster format with transp back support like on image above. If you are unsure, you can download tif sample right [here]

Guru tip No 2:

If you can??€t find transparent logo of your network, you can use non-transparent logo and erase background with magic wand tool, or even better with select colour tool.
Also, if you have logo in vector format, resize it to right size in some vector graphic program like Corel draw or Photo shop and then export it as tif or psd with marked transparency option of course, but all of mentioned things is completely different story...

14.)

Repeat same procedure like wit theme header:

1.) Select transparent Op logo window and press Ctrl + A (Select / All)
2.) Then Press Ctrl + C (Edit / Copy)
3.) Finally, select Op logo template and press Ctrl + V (Edit / Paste)

Or just drag and drop Op logo to SF template.

15.)

Press Ctrl + T (Edit / Free transform) to go into free transform mode, you will see rectangle around logo as on image above, so move and if necessary resize it to fit into Op logo area (between guide lines).
Once when the positioning is done, just press Enter to apply changes.

16.)

Click on zoom tool or just Press Z to select it, or use navigator, however zoom Image and be sure that Logo fits in required area between guide lines like on image above .

17.)

Press Shift + Ctrl + ; or even better, choose view from main menu and be sure that Snap option is marked like on image above.

18.)

Click on Crop tool in Tool bar or just press C as crop shortcut.
Than draw crop area like on image above, crop tool will automatically snap to guide lines for easer selection.
Once when you??€re done, just Press Enter to apply changes...

19.)

Now we will check image size, just to check that everything is done all right.
So Choose Image/Image size from the main menu.
Image size must be like on image above 97 x 25 pixels.

20.)

Press Shift + Ctrl + S, or use File / Save as.. from menu bar

21.)

On pop up window in file name field enter op logo name (My first OpLogo) for example.
In Format field, choose BMP format from drop down list
click on save and that's it, astalavista baby

Now we just need to upload Logo to phone and setup op logo as well...
So send the bmp image to phone, on which ever way you prefer, BT, irda, cable, wap, email, etc..

22.)

Scroll down to uploaded logo and chose:
Options/File/Set as operator logo

23.)

Don't worry about pop up window, just click on yes, phone will reboot and you will have a transparent looks like logo..

That's it, you would see something like on above image,
Cool isn't!? ...
